Granny's Patchwork Pinwheel
copyright 2004 by Rhonda K. White
OK everyone - this one is so simple that I'm almost embarrassed to put it up here! ALMOST :oP  I know I've seen cloths with this pattern, but they were NOT knitted like this! There was that word "mitre" in the patterns, and I just didn't "get" it.  So! My grade school mathematical mind took over, and I came up with an EASY way to make a pinwheel :o)
NEW note:  I now love to make mitred cloths - but will leave this one up just because it is fun! :o)

I bet you can figure out how I did it - but I'll tell you anyway! :oP

Cast on 3 stitches
1:  knit across
2:  k1, inc 1, k1
3:  knit across
4:  k1, inc 1,inc 1, k1
5:  knit across
6:  k1, inc 1, knit to last 2 sts, inc 1, k1
7:  knit across
repeat rows  6 & 7 until you have 25-30 stitches on your needle.  Change color - not NECESSARY of course, but if you just want a plain colored cloth, this is kind of the hard way to go about it :o)

start decreasing:

1:  k1, k2tog, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1
2:  knit across

repeat rows 1 & 2  until you get down to 4 stitches -

STOP! Don't even THINK about binding off!!  Add your first color back on - and repeat the "pattern" again until you have 4 pretty little squares, all hooked together in a chain - :o)

I know, I know - now you have to SEW - but hey! I really think it's worth it :o)

Lay your four half square triangles out flat and pin them together for easier seaming (yep, I learned a quilting term somewhere along the way )  Sew it all up and there it is - a Patchwork Pinwheel - done with granny's favorite pattern :o)
Now, isn't this cool? My friend MARILYN in Canada opted to do FIVE repeats - and what a cool looking flower cloth she made! Thanks for sending me this picture Marilyn!
